Erskine Virtual Sprint training event
Test yourself on the sprint orienteering courses run by the UKs best Orienteers in Erskine.
The UK’s best orienteers came to Erskine this month for the sprint selection race to go to the World Orienteering Championships in Trondheim during August. This was the first event on Patrick’s excellent new map of the area. Many Clydesiders helped out at the event but not everyone was able to run. The feedback from the elite orienteers about the complexity of the area and the challenge it posed was so positive it seemed a shame not to make more use of the map.
So, I’ve attached pdf files of the courses for you to download and run round at your leisure as a training exercise. Remember there are no controls out and the area is a residential estate so there will be traffic. Parking is at the Park Mains bar, just to the east of the start on Park Drive, PA8 7AL.
The Clyde routegadget site also has a virtual Erskine sprint event set up (alongside the official erskine routegadget site) so if you have a GPS (or manually), you can upload your run to compare with other Clydesiders.
There is a Training gadgets user guide from RouteGadget UK that takes you through adding a route from a GPS or manually with split times recorded with a watch.
