Mosshead Urban Planner’s Report by Thomas Wilson
It was a challenge trying to plan three courses using only 19 controls (the club only has 19 SI units), however I did it by making the Medium very similar to the first half of the Long and sharing a few controls between the Short and the other two courses. My aim was to have at least two similar route choices on each leg. Perhaps my favourite leg (and certainly the one there were most comments about) was 3-4 on the Long and Medium, which was less than 100 m straight line but took between 4.23 and 9.09 going round via either the Burnbrae Inn or Mosshead Park. The quickest route (which I didn’t even consider when planning) might have been to cut through to the green behind the Burnbrae Inn, but when I tried it (after Robert had told me his route) I found it incredibly hard to get up the bank from the river. My original Long course didn’t include controls 14 and 15 (the hilly ones), however my dad persuaded me to add them, so complain to him not me about the tough finish! This was the first time I’ve planned any real courses, and I hope you enjoyed running them as much as I did planning them.
