Thursday Evening Runs
“Thursday evening club runs are great”... “Why haven’t I done this before?” These are some of the comments heard on the last couple of Thursday evening club runs.
For a long time Clyde have had an evening run every Thursday starting at 7pm from the Wilsons house. Contact Clyde info for the address. The aim is to have a sociable run of about 45-50 minutes in the hills close to Glasgow.
Unfotunately, the number of people taking part has fallen recently. My reason for not joining in was partly due to a worry that I would not be fit enough to keep up and would spoil other people’s enjoyment of the run. However, having taken the plunge and been out on a couple of runs I can report that I can’t keep up, but this doesn’t matter in the slightest. .
The first run was from the end of Bearsden into the Kilpatricks to trig point 356. I’d never been to this area before and was delighted by the variety of scenery and views back to Glasgow. Altogether we were out for 52 minutes. Dave, Steve and Robert were certainly faster up the hills, but ran back past us down the hill and then up again to catch us, getting a better session in the process. We even had stops for photos and to explore the WW2 dugout.
The second run we went to was further out towards the Carbeth Inn and along round the back of Eden Mill. From here we ran out to a waterfall in a gorgeous little valley before heading back down to the car.
Both runs were thoroughly enjoyable and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.
