Two Clyde members in Scottish Team at VHIs in England
Three Clyde members were selected to take part in the Veteran Home Internationals on 14th-15th November.
Donald Petrie, Dave Robertson and Christine Patterson were selected for the VHIs last weekend but unfortunately illness meant that only Donald and Christine were able to travel down to England.
Saturday morning was windy but dry for the Relay Event. The Scots had high hopes of team 12 led off by Ben Hartman, followed by Donald and then Christine, with Sarah Dunn on the final leg. Unfortunately, it was not to be. A map mix up on the first leg meant that Ben ran a short course instead of the long arriving back 10 minutes before Donald was expecting him. This led to a delayed change over, Donald had to run a long course, Christine and Sarah had to swap legs leaving Christine to race some faster, younger runners on the last leg. In the end the team managed a creditable 6th out of 24 just over 5mins behind the winning Welsh team.
Sunday was more successful for the two Clyde representatives who came 2nd and 3rd in their age classes.
In the end, England beat Scotland into 2nd place, with Wales 3rd and Ireland 4th.
