Permanent Courses using GPS, Maprun an Orienteering app for your phone

The “MapRun” orienteering app allows you to set up and take part in “Virtual” orienteering courses using the GPS your smartphone. You run a course using either the map on your phone screen or a paper version, and your phone will automatically beep when you reach the correct location of each control (nothing marking it on the ground). At the end of the course your results and split times can be saved into a results table alongside others who have run the course. Clyde have a number of courses available that you can run any time you want to.

CLYDE AGM 2019 #2

A very well attended and successful CLYDE AGM was held in Milngavie on Saturday 23rd November 2019, preceded by a low-key score event using the Maprun app. Chair Rachel Wilson was re-elected unopposed for a further year, and, among other subjects, the meeting discussed the club’s development plans for 2020. The winners of the club’s annual awards were as follows. Most Improved Man: Ruaraidh MacPherson; Most Improved Woman: Alice Wilson; The Cannon Trophy (for most points in Scottish Orienteering League): Donald Petrie; Croy Bowl (for a notable achievement): Alastair Dunlop; and the Outstanding Achievement Award: Donald Petrie for an outstanding year, including a clean sweep of individual wins at the JK. CLYDE up a massive 22 places to 7th in CompassSport Club Rankings 2019

As readers of CompassSport (specifically Volume 40, Issue 4) will already know, CLYDE lept a massive 22 places from 30th to an all-time high of 7th out of 81 clubs in the UK in CompassSport’s unofficial Club Ranking for 2019. We are one of the “cluster of small Scottish clubs doing very well” with only EUOC (1st, of course), FVO (3rd, not a small club!) and INT (4th) ahead of us. We can all feel proud that good performances across the year by the entire club (the ranking is based on average score of all members on the BOF ranking list) have been reflected in this best-ever result for the club. Well done to everyone who ran for CLYDE this year!
