Sunshines on Spring Series 1 at Mugdock
After an unpromising start, Saturday morning turned out to be beautiful and sunny and after a last minute replan Spring Series 1 turned out to be a great success.
Existing members tried a pairs relocation exercise in which each partner took turns to be led to a control without looking at the map. On arriving there the task was to relocate ie. work out where on the map you were by remembering the route covered and by looking around and matching features close by to features marked on the map.
Newcomers started with a simple course around the loch and up on to the moorland with a “magic clipper” at each point to keep the children happy. Having completed this successfully, there was the chance to complete a longer, more challenging course.
Spring Series 2 will follow a similar format on 15th May in Rouken Glen Park. The third event will have a similar format but will take place on a Thursday evening and will be followed by the annual club barbeque. We have booked a barbeque site and everyone is welcome to join in and bring something to cook.

Terrain description
A favourite CLYDE area. A huge mixture of terrain. At the South end we have the urban environment of Milngavie town centre where the railway station and supermarket are on the map. The North has rought moorland and mixed plantation forest and the middle section has areas of managed country park, woodland and moorland. There are even 2 ruined castles and some WWII archeology around. There is a good network of paths through this varied terrain and areas of intricate details in contours, rock and vegetation. The visitor centre has toilets with piped music, two different cafes, a garden centre and shop.
