Event report

The CLYDE Tuesday evening training at Donald and Amelia’s house in Houston took the form of a variety hill session.

Nine Clydeside members ran the session starting with a warm up around picturesque Houston House Woods, a delightful area of woodland with a network of paths and tracks.  The hills consisted of a set of strides up a gentle hill, 5-6 reps up a longer hill with the aim of running the up and down in equal times, a set of up and over hills and 3-4 reps on a shorter, steeper hill.  As Donald explained to us, it’s a good idea to train on hills that simulate what you might have to do in an orienteering race (It’s rare in an o-race that you sprint as fast as possible to the top of a hill and then stand gasping at the top until you’ve recovered).
