Note: The late change to Dunrod Hill was necessary because we could not get permission to use Doon Hill and Fairy Knowe due to issues with SSSIs and nesting birds.

CLYDE Training at Gleniffer Braes

Many thanks for Dave and Ann Robertson (assisted by Alastair Dunlop) for organising the CLYDE training session at Gleniffer Braes last Saturday morning. The area has definitely improved in recent years, and the “in and out” exercise provided invaluable practice of entering low-visibility areas.

CLYDE at the Scottish Sprint Championships 2019

Despite our recent urban orienteering training session, there were no CLYDE winners at the Scottish Sprint Championships held at North Uphall last Sunday, but there were top three finishes for Steve Wilson (3rd M50), Donald Petrie (3rd M60), Caitlin Paterson (3rd W12), Alice Wilson (2nd W18) and Amelia Petrie (3rd W60). Full results can be found here.

CLYDE at the Scottish Night Championships 2019

John Muir Country Park near Dunbar provided an excellent location for the Scottish Night Championships 2019 on a cold but clear and still evening last Saturday. The sand dunes posed a particularly stern technical challenge in the dark, but CLYDE still emerged with three Scottish Night Orienteering Champions, namely Steve Wilson in M50, Dave Robertson in M55 and Christine Paterson in W60, as well as a 3rd place for Rachel Wilson in W50. Full results are here.

CLYDE at the Devil’s Burdens Relay 2019

While some CLYDEsiders were enjoying the EUOC Big Weekend Urban Race in Edinburgh on Saturday 26th January, five CLYDEsiders, namely Iain Mennie (Leg 1), Donald Petrie and Mirjam Allik (Leg 2), Steve Wilson and Ty Solomon (Leg 3), and “Patrick Walder” (actually Iain Mennie again) (Leg 4) were battling the elements at the Devil’s Burdens Relay in the Lomonds of Fife. The detailed results aren’t out yet, but a strong team performance saw us halve our overall position (from 83 to 45) and take half an hour off our time (from 4:17 to 3:49) compared to last year. Well done to everyone who played their part in a great day out, and, who knows, perhaps next year we’ll have two CLYDE teams battling it out with each other?
