Clyde Saturday Training 1: 16th January 2010

Event report
Clyde held the first Saturday training event of the year in Pollok Park on 16th January 2010. Most of the ice had gone and the weather was kind to the 19 members and newcomers who turned out for some early year training.
As sprint races with chasing finals have been planned for the next two weekends, Christine organised some easily set up race training practise. Participants split up into groups of 2 or 3 people of a similar standard for a “trains” exercise. The first member of each group headed out with two markers, closely followed by the other members of the group. The aim was for the first person to accurately identify the control site and put out the markers under the pressure of being closely followed by the rest of the group. The task of the remaining two in the group was to race each other to pick up the markers. To be successful required quick decision-making, accurate navigation and speed through the terrain - exactly the skills that will be required at Kinneil on 24th Jan and Arthurs’ Seat on 31st. Most people seemed to find the exercise enjoyable and entertaining, appreciating the company out in the woods for a change. Alastair may have a different view as he had a tussle with a ditch and was so wet and muddy he had to head straight home for a hot shower.
Congratulations should go to Caroline, Stefan and Lukas who completed both short courses with a buggy and still came back smiling!
Afterward everyone made for the Burrell Collection Cafe for hot food and drinks and a good chat. Hopefully this will be the first of many good chats, the next being at our first Tuesday evening club night to be held at the Macphersons in Newton Mearns.
