Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Directions / Parking

Finlaystone Road, Kilmacolm PA13 4SD

Parking is along a forestry track through a gate which will be manned.

Map / Terrain

Terrain: A new area for orienteering consisting of three different types of terrain; detailed open moorland with scattered trees and gorse, scattered mature deciduous woodland and commercial conifer plantations.

Map Notes: The gorse on the open moorland is quite extensive but only the major areas of bushes have been mapped. Map scale 1:10,000. Map funded by Renfrewshire Council.

Safety Notes

Safety: The old barn at the end of the access track being used for parking is in a dangerous condition and is strictly out of bounds. Scottish Power are carrying out reinstatement works on a track under one of the major power lines which runs through the area. Be aware of any parked machinery and materials.
