Monthly Saturday Afternoon Series for Beginners and Improvers
Clydeside Orienteers have a monthly Saturday afternoon series for beginners and improvers, starting on 15 February 2025 at Lennox Park, Milngavie. If you are new to orienteering this is a great place to start - the events are aimed at introducing new people (juniors and adults) to the sport as well as helping people improve. There are courses suitable for everyone, with club coaches and members available to help and explain the basic techniques.
CLYDE at the Glasgow Parks Champs 2024
There were some excellent CLYDE results at the Glasgow Parks Champs 2024 held last weekend on Tollcross Park, Alexandra Park and Drumpellier Country Park, including wins for Dave Robertson (Supervet Men), Donald Petrie (Ultravet Men) and Amelia Petrie (Ultravet Women), second places for Ian Davidson (Ultravet Men) and Alastair Dunlop (Veteran Men), and a 4th place for Rachel Wilson (Supervet Women). CLYDE is officially one of the top five most successful clubs in the UK
CLYDE may be relatively small, but we're officially in the top 5 most successful orienteering clubs in the United Kingdom!
Thomas Wilson wins the Barcelona City Race Weekend, again!

Congratulations overseas CLYDE member Thomas Wilson who successfully defended his overall Men's Elite title at the Barcelona City Race Weekend 2024. The weekend consisted of a short urban sprint race, a middle distance race on a steep hillside, and a long urban race in the Gothic Quarter of the city, and took place in a mixture of wet and dry weather conditions.

There was another great CLYDE turnout at Drumpellier parkrun on 24th August.

There way a great CLYDE turnout on a sunny morning at Tollcross parkrun on 6th July.
CLYDE at Elder parkrun

There was a small but perfectly formed CLYDE turnout at Elder parkrun on 1st June.
CLYDE at Scottish Championships 2024

While there were no CLYDE Scottish Champions at the Scottish Individual Championships held last weekend, there were a number of excellent performances, notably Dave Robertson 3rd M60, Donald Petrie 2nd M65, and Christine Patterson 3rd W65. there were no podiums for the two CLYDE teams at the Scottish Relay Championships, but special mention to Alex Lennie for an excellent 3rd place on the first leg in the 23+ Age Class race, and to Amelia Petrie who had an excellent run on the C Course in the 23+ Age Class team. It's not often she has to run a longer course than Donald!
CLYDE at Levengrove parkrun

There was a small by enthusiastic CLYDE turnout at Levengrove parkrun on 18th May.
CLYDE at Scottish Middle Distance Champs 2024

There was a good CLYDE turnout at the Scottish Middle Distance Championships held at Hill of Alyth on 20th April. The highlights were Donald Petrie taking the Men's UltraVet title, Dave Roberson winning a bronze medal in the Men's SuperVet class, and Christine Patterson just missing the podium with 4th place in the Women's UltraVet class.
