Clydeside Orienteers is looking to expand by hiring two development/project officers. Initially, these positions are for 10 days at £140/day each, with the potential for extension based on performance and funding. Our goal is to strengthen our existing presence and offerings.

Would you like to be part of an exciting opportunity and join us on our journey? Clydeside Orienteers, the oldest club in Glasgow, has recently revived orienteering at the Glasgow Universities and started its full SI-timing Spring Series for this year. We are a family-oriented club welcoming members of all ages and abilities, primarily based in Dunbartonshire and Renfrewshire (NW & SW Glasgow). In our rich history, in the past we have achieved success with a thriving junior program, elite club members receiving national call-ups (juniors, seniors and veterans), and winning national relay events.

As we revitalise, Clydeside Orienteers is looking to expand by hiring two development/project officers. Initially, these positions are for 10 days at £140/day each, with the potential for extension based on performance and funding. Our goal is to strengthen our existing presence and offerings in East Dunbartonshire, focusing on Strathblane, Milngavie (including Mugdock), Bearsden, Lennoxtown, and Bishopbriggs. One role will focus on attracting new members, while the other will concentrate on member retention. The specific aims of each role will be tailored to the skills and interests of the chosen candidates, aligned with our club's needs. There is the possibility of combining these roles for the right candidate.

The membership attraction position would involve:

• Initiating and nurturing relationships with relevant parties in Milngavie/Bearsden for potential affiliations or sponsorships.

• Creating compelling promotional fliers and videos.

• Increasing local publicity through social media and news outlets with a modest budget.

• Distributing promotional materials and conducting market research at targeted events/locations.

• Organising 'come and try it' sessions at Mugdock Park and Milngavie tailored for families.

• Hosting an introductory Orienteering session for hill runners

The membership retention position would include:

• Offering club nights with coaching and volunteer skills training.

• Filling volunteer gaps in our program such as course planning and area access.

• Establishing a partnership with a primary school for the Scottish schools' festival.

• Planning an orienteering event for East Dunbartonshire schools.

• Supporting the Glasgow Universities' orienteering development.

• Creating a new club membership package and volunteer incentive scheme.

• Expanding our POC/MapRun activities.

• Conducting a review of club participation and retention, proposing recommendations for improvement.

Travel expenses to/from East Dunbartonshire are not covered - but other expenses and travel requirements will be. Experience with Condes & being a licenced L1 coach would be advantageous but not essential; all applicants are welcome.

We offer committee support, mentorship, PVG cost, and all necessary equipment. Work dates are very flexible. For an informal discussion about these positions, please reach out to Rachel Wilson at [email protected] or Dan Graves at [email protected]. Be a part of our exciting journey and make a difference!

Applications by 5th May 2024 for informal interviews the following week. To apply, please send a CV and a covering letter to Rachel Wilson, the Club Chair at [email protected]. Your cover letter should explain how you meet the specification for the role in terms of your skills and experience - outline your ideas for delivery on this contract. You should also provide names and contact details for two referees.
