CLYDE Captain's AGM Report

Posted: Sun 15 Jan 2023

This is a summary of the report of CLYDE results during 2022 delivered by the Club Captain at the AGM held in December 2022.

At International level, the highlight of the year was undoubtably Thomas Wilson representing Great Britain at the World Universities Orienteering Championships held in Switzerland in August. Thomas was 38th in the Sprint and 30th in the Long (the second GBR runner in each case) against two very strong fields. Thomas also retained his title at the Barcelona City Race in November.

At UK level, Donald Petrie was the winner (by a mere 4 seconds!) of the M65 JK Sprint Race at Swansea University in April, and Emma Wilson recorded two very strong results for Scotland in the Senior Home Internationals (SHIs) held in the New Forest in November, including coming back first on the first leg of the relay!

At Scottish level, the highlight was undoubtably the CLYDE win at the Scottish Relay Championships at Sluie in May. Donald Petrie (leg 1) and Steve Wilson (leg 2) ran solidly for CLYDE Destroyers, but the race came down to a last-leg battle in which Dave Robertson prevailed by just 16 seconds over FVO’s Jon Cross for the overall handicap title. In the Scottish Individual Championships held at Glen Dye the previous day, there was a Scottish title for Alice Wilson on W20E, silver medals for Donald and Amelia Petrie on M65L and W65L, respectively, a bronze medal for Christine Patterson on W60L, and a fourth place (second Scot) for Dave Robertson on M55L.

In March Donald Petrie was crowned Scottish Ultravet Men Sprint Champion in Dundee (with Amelia Petrie third Ultravet Woman), and in May he become Scottish Middle Distance Ultravet Champion, Alice Wilson became W20 Champion, and Dave Robertson came second in Supervet Men at Kinnoull Hill in Perth. Later in the year, Donald and Dave triumphed in the Scottish Score Championships held in Cumbernauld in November. Earlier, Dave won the Supervet class and Emma Wilson was third Senior Woman at the Glasgow Parks Championships in August.

While there were no overall CLYDE winners, there were a number of strong club results in the “blue riband” Scottish Orienteering League (SOL) series, with top-three results by Alice Wilson (3rd, W20L), Emma Wilson (3rd, W21E), Alastair McCartney (3rd, M18L), Alastair Dunlop (3rd, M45L), Dave Robertson (2nd , running up as a M50), Steve Wilson (2nd, M55L), Andy Paterson (3rd, M55S), and Donald Petrie (2nd, M65L). In the Scottish Urban Orienteering League (SOUL) series, there was an overall win for Donald Petrie in Ultravet Men, and third places for Alastair Dunlop (Veteran Men) and Amelia Petrie (Ultravet Women).
