CLYDE at JK 2023

JK 2023 Donald 1

The Jan Kjellstrom International Festival of Orienteering ("The JK") is the premier annual orienteering event in Britain, and CLYDE was well represented at this year's competition held in the Lake District over the Easter Weekend. There were several excellent results, but the highlights were Donald Petrie's win in M65L, and a very impressive 3rd place in M60L by Robin Orr.

CLYDE Successes at the British Championships 2023

BOC 2023 Men's Short Winners

A small but dedicated group of CLYDEsiders travelled south the the British Championships held in South Central England. Highlights were strong runs on the elite courses from Thomas Wilson (6th in M21E) and Emma Wilson (4th in W21E, only 9 seconds off a medal) and a fantastic win for a CLYDE Men's Short Relay team comprising Emma Wilson, Donald Petrie and Thomas Wilson, with Thomas coming through from 4th (10 minutes down) on the final leg to win the trophy by about a minute! CLYDE at the Scottish Middle Distance Championships

There was a good turnout of CLYDE runners at the Scottish Middle Distance Championships organised by our neighbours FVO at Beecraigs Country Park on 18th March, and some excellent results with Emma Wilson crowned Women's Open Champion, Dave Robertson Men's Supervet Champion, and Donald Petrie Men's Ultravet Champion. Supervet title for Steve Wilson at Scottish Night Championships

Scottish Night Champs 2023 Podium

Steve Wilson was crowned 2023 Scottish Supervet Night Orienteering Champion after winning a technically challenging race held at Balmoral Estate in Saturday 25th February by six minutes. Speaking after the event, Steve said "It was a classic case of the hare and the tortoise, and on this occasion the tortoise won! The fact that this can happen is why night orienteering is my favourite form of our great sport."

Clyde and GOATs (Glasgow Orienteering and Trailrunners)/GUOC are running a joint series of 4 Night events starting on 9 February 2023. The first 3 are urban with the final one planned on South Mugdock:

CLYDE training at Doon Hill

CLYDE Doon Hill November 2022

On Sunday 20th November we teamed up with the Scottish Junior Orienteering Squad (ScotJoS) for a morning of orienteering technique training at Doon Hill near Aberfoyle. The rain stopped, the sun came out, and everyone said how unexpectedly technically interesting and yet surprisingly runnable the terrain was. Watch out for the announcement of further CLYDE training sessions in due course.
