CLYDE Gilmorehill MapRun

Thanks to Klaas Wynne for putting on a great MapRun activity around Kelvingrove Park and Glasgow University on Thursday 13th October. A good turnout of runners, especially from Glasgow University, did battle with the damp conditions (and, for the later starters, the dark) and explored some familiar and some less familiar parts of the West End. Fastest on the night was Al Dunlop, but anyone can run (or rerun) the course anytime using MapRun.
CLYDE at SOL 6
There were some strong CLYDE performances at the INT Middle Distance and BASOC SOL races on Loch Vaa and Creag Dhubh (two of the best orienteering areas in the UK) on the weekend on 8th and 9th October. Top results at the SOL included Emma Wilson's 5th place (and first woman) on Brown and Donald Petrie's win on Short Blue, while Steve Wilson was 10th on Blue at the Middle Distance race, but the best performance was undoubtably by Dave Robertson, who won Blue at the Middle Distance race and Short Brown at the SOL (the latter by more than 7 minutes). Well done Dave!
CLYDE at SOL 5
Last weekend a group of CLYDEsiders travelled north to run in Anagach Woods, one of the best orienteering areas in Scotland, in the 5th Scottish Orienteering League (SOL) event of the year organised by INVOC. The well-planned courses made the most of the area, and CLYDE highlights included 6th and 10th for Alastair McCartney and Emma Wilson, respectively, on Brown, 5th and 6th for the comeback kid Patrick Walder and Dave Robertson, respectively, on Short Brown, and 6th for Donald Petrie on Short Blue. Full results can be found here.

CLYDE at Glasgow Parks Championships

There was a good turnout of CLYDEsiders at the recent Glasgow Parks Championships organised by our neighbours STAG. The annual three-parks-in-one-day event involved races in Linn Park, Queen's Park, and Pollok Park. The best performances were by Dave Robertson, who won the Superveteran Men category, Al McCartney, who ran strongly to finish second in the Open Men category, and Emma Wilson, who finished third in the Open Women category.
CLYDE at the Scottish Championships 2022
Well done to all the CLYDEsiders who conquered physically and technically challenging courses at the Individual Championships at Glen Dye and the Relay Championships at Sluie Woods on the weekend on 28th/29th May. Highlights of what is always one of the key competitions of the Scottish orienteering year included a gold medal and Scottish title for Alice Wilson on W20E, silver medals for Donald and Amelia Petrie on M65L and W65L, respectively, a bronze medal for Christine Patterson on W60L, and a strong run by Dave Robertson (4th, 2nd Scot) on M55L. The highlight of the relays was undoubtably the surprise win by just 16 seconds of the overall Handicap Trophy by a CLYDE Destroyers team consisting of Donald Petrie, Steve Wilson and last-leg-hero Dave Robertson.
CLYDE at the Scottish Middle Distance Championships 2022
Congratulations to all the CLYDEsiders who took part in the Scottish Middle Distance Championships held at Kinnoull Hill near Perth on Saturday 14th May, but especially the newly-crowed Scottish Champions Donald Petrie (Ultravet Men) and Alice Wilson (W20), and commiserations to Dave Robertson who missed out on the Supervet Men title by a mere 24 seconds!
